CRMC Welcomes Michelle A. McGuirk, MD – General Surgeon

Coffeyville Regional Medical Center is pleased to announce the addition of Michelle McGuirk, MD, General Surgeon, to the medical staff and CRMC Medical Group.

“Our organization is very excited about Dr. McGuirk joining CRMC Medical Group,” said Dr. Mark Woodring, CEO of Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. “In addition to the latest general surgery techniques and procedures, she brings an incredible enthusiasm and patient-centered approach to our hospital and clinics. Please join us in welcoming her to Coffeyville and southeast Kansas.”

After working in basic-science research, as well as biomedical device engineering, Dr. Michelle A. McGuirk decided she wanted to see how her work could directly benefit patients. “I attended medical school so that I could interact with, and impact patients and their families,” said Dr. McGuirk.

Beginning in 2008, Dr. McGuirk attended the University of Colorado Medical School in Aurora. Following medical school, she moved to Wichita where she was a Senior Surgical Resident at the Wichita Center for Graduate Medical Education. She recently graduated from the program and moved to Coffeyville to practice as a General Surgeon at CRMC. “It just felt like we would be a good fit,” said Dr. McGuirk. “I wanted to stay in Kansas and find a place where I could make a noticeable impact. It felt very natural and I had positive interactions with staff and providers when I came to Coffeyville.”

While she enjoys a broad variety of surgical cases, she is trained to perform many cases laparoscopically and takes great pride in cosmetically pleasing closures for all patients.

Dr. McGuirk also likes to spend a little extra time developing relationships with her patients. “When a patient undergoes surgery, I want to be able to know something about them,” said Dr. McGuirk. “Being a surgeon is an absolute privilege for me.” She has always loved working with her hands, whether painting, gardening, knitting, or working on cars. “Surgery is a field that requires precision with your hands and intuition — it’s a gratifying way to improve a patient’s quality of life,” said Dr. McGuirk.

Dr. McGuirk is located at CRMC Medical Group – Specialty Clinic, 1400 W. 4th Street (3rd Floor of CRMC). For more information, please call 620-252-1639.

CRMC Recruits Kansas Imaging Consultants for Expanded Radiology Services at Hospital & Clinics

“On behalf of our Boards of Directors and Trustees, I am extremely pleased to announce the recruitment of Kansas Imaging Consultants (KIC) to Coffeyville Regional Medical Center,” stated Dr. Mark Woodring, CEO of CRMC.  “This recruitment is the culmination of much work and collaboration with our medical staff, and we also want to thank the Montgomery County Commissioners for their support of recruiting KIC to our communities as well.”

CRMC and Montgomery County recently partnered on a preferred provider network plan for county employees with goals to improve health outcomes and lower costs for members and families enrolled on the county health insurance plan.  “As a preferred healthcare provider for Montgomery County employees, we have been successful in achieving those goals and we look forward to continuing that partnership as we believe there is much more for us to accomplish together.  CRMC is one of the lowest-cost hospitals in the nation, and as the only healthcare organization in the region accredited by The Joint Commission, our care team provides quality services at the highest levels and standards.  CRMC provides Medicare beneficiaries, and other purchasers of healthcare services, tremendous value, and we appreciate the continued and growing confidence in our health system by our communities,” said Woodring.

Data suggests out-migration of Montgomery County residents has occurred through the years for various imaging and radiology services being obtained in Bartlesville and Tulsa.  For the Montgomery County taxpayer, that migration costs the county more tax dollars as the charges and payments provided for those services out of county are more expensive than at CRMC.  Woodring stated, “CRMC has the only 64-slice CT scanner in the region, an in-house MRI, the same linear accelerator for radiation oncology you will find at large, urban medical centers, and now our medical community is making a major upgrade in our digital X-ray offerings.  Combined with our compassionate staff and clinical care team, and the expertise of KIC Board-certified radiologists who will be onsite at least three days per week to perform interventional radiology procedures in addition to their daily general coverage, CRMC continues to offer big city medicine for the patients we live, work, shop and worship with here in Southeast Kansas and Northeast Oklahoma.”

While many rural health systems are moving to a complete remote telehealth environment for radiology services, CRMC is growing its onsite capabilities for imaging needs of the region.  Dr. David Gutschenritter, a native of Neodesha, will be relocating back to southeast Kansas later this year to provide primary onsite support to CRMC.  The recruitment of KIC is also homecoming for Coffeyville native Dr. Timothy Benning as well, who serves as medical director of the group.

Coffeyville Regional Medical Center is a licensed 47 bed, not-for-profit regional medical center established in 1949.  The facility has undergone expansion and renovation over the years to meet the needs of southeast Kansas and northeast Oklahoma.  Today CRMC provides comprehensive medical care with 415 professional and support staff and 45 physicians, which includes active, courtesy, and consulting staff in numerous specialties.  CRMC is the only hospital in the region that is accredited by The Joint Commission, earning their “Gold Seal of Approval”.  Learn more about Coffeyville Regional Medical Center at www.crmcinc.org.

Kansas Imaging Consultants (KIC) is a radiology practice of more than 20 sub-specialty trained radiologists who provide Board-certified, professional services for the largest hospital system in Kansas and regional hospitals and imaging centers.   KIC partners with smaller hospitals in rural areas to provide a full range of services both remotely and on-site when needed.  KIC provides charitable services through its partnership with Via Christi hospital.  Their personable physicians, knowledgeable experts in state-of-the-art imaging services and interventional radiology, set the standard for the practice of radiology in the regions they serve.  KIC offers a unique combination of fast, reliable services delivered by highly qualified and experienced doctors using the widest array of the latest technologies.

After leaving her most recent position as an associate professor of medicine at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana, Dr. Oreck was pleased to practice in Coffeyville. “I loved what CRMC had to show me during my visit,” said Oreck. “I also have an aunt, uncle and grandparents that live in the surrounding community.”
